Our itineraries are "roadmaps" to adventure; packed full of tips and tricks that take you off the beaten path. I have spent over a decade traveling the world and experiencing new cultures, tasting delicious cuisines, and meeting unique people. Before I travel somewhere I do a lot of research. I love to look up the most talked about restaurants and shops, and add those to my must-visit list. However, my favorite places are the ones I just stumble upon. Peregrina exists to use my experiences to craft local guides to some of my favorite destinations, just for you!

As you explore our site, you'll see there are destinations that include National Parks, beaches and European destinations. When I travel (especially on a road trip) there are a few items that I make sure not to leave home without!

Here are 10 of my favorite things!

These excellent hiking shoes are the first thing I put in my bag. Many people argue whether Gore-Tex is the best material for hiking boots/shoes. Since they are "waterproof" they don't necessarily dry quickly. Well, I would recommend avoiding Gore-Tex for ankle-high boots, but for hiking shoes, such as these, I have never had a problem with them drying effectively. These shoes are lightweight, have a reinforced toe box, are anti-slip and are incredibly comfortable. I will be walking in these 15 miles per day on the Camino.

If you know me you know I drink hot, black coffee all day long. So this Hydro Flask is critical to any trip I take. I love all the color options that you can choose - and was drawn to the "fog" color, or light purple. This travel mug has a leak-proof seal so you can store it in the side pocket of your backpack, throw it in your purse, or let it roll around on your car floor. You don't have to worry about coffee spilling everywhere. When you're ready to take a sip, just turn the top counter clock-wise. The best part is, it stays hot for hours!! I have taken this on 5 hour hikes and still had piping hot coffee at the end. Although my coffee normally never lasts that long.

I use these Stasher Bags for everything. I put my cell phone in them when hiking in a river to keep from getting wet, I pack sandwiches and snacks in them, I freeze meals in them to heat up on a later date, and I just found out that you can make popcorn in them by simply putting kernels and a little olive oil in a stand-up bag and microwaving it. (Mind blown!) These bags are dish-washer safe, reusable, water-proof, and BPA, PVC and Latex free. You can even boil it or stick it in the oven.

This is the backpack I will take with me on the Camino de Santiago (600 + miles). The foam AirScape back panel keeps you cool and supported throughout your hikes. It is adjustable to your torso length which helps to make sure you carry the bulk of the weight in your center. The waist belt is comfy on the hips and fits an I-Phone 11 which is a win! It comes with a rain fly that fits like a shower cap, a sleeping bag compartment at the bottom, a sleeve for a water bladder, an attached top lid for valuables, and attachments for hiking poles or an ice pick. It is a top loader with compression straps and a full length side zipper for quick access to the main compartment of the pack. This backpack is the perfect size to be comfortable/light and fit a lot of gear.

I seems like I am wearing this jacket in almost every photo I take outside. It's probably because I am! This jacket goes with me everywhere. It comes in many colors, I opted for winter blue but that misty rose is to die for. It has a moisture-shedding finish which helps the rain to just roll right off. It is warm, but lightweight. I have worn this while hiking the Narrows in 40 degree water and have worn it on 80 degree days. It has side pockets to stash your hands away from the cold, button pockets to store valuables like cell phones, a weatherproof zipper with buttons to cover, a durable hood and a cinched waist which makes it look more feminine.

Ok, so I don't have my head in the sand about how expensive these things are! I was lucky enough to be gifted this Yeti by one of my best friends. However, I am sold on this roadie! This fits perfectly behind my passenger seat and is a great place to keep snacks and drinks cool on a long road trip. As much as I love Taco Bell, eating fast food while traveling for long amounts of time is not the best option for me. I love to pack this cooler with healthy snacks (think pickles in a bag, sandwiches in a Stasher, fresh fruit), refreshing beverages, lots of water, and a nice bottle of wine for when I reach my destination. I collect stickers from places I visit, and the Yeti is the perfect place to show off your travels.

Pair it with these Yeti Ice Blocks and this clear basket organizer to make the most of your cooler.

These socks are the perfect way to recover from a long day on a trail. They are also great to wear if you plan to be in the car for a long time. The compression helps to promote circulation and avoid inflammation. Unlike other compression socks, these Copper Fit ones are infused with Ice Menthol and are so soothing. They are odor-resistant and machine washable. Although why would you wash them if they are odor-resistant? (KIDDING!! Please wash your socks ha!) You can pick these up at Target or on Amazon.

Perfect for hot days, this cool tie is packed with hydrating crystals that will keep you cool for days. Follow the instructions on the tag in order to initially hydrate your Kool Tie. Once you are done submerging it in clean water, tie it around your neck and enjoy the benefits for 2-3 days. You can rewet and use for years! Benefits of cool ties are reducing your heart rate and blood pressure, decreasing affects of migraines, multiple sclerosis, hot flashes and helps increase circulation. I always have one of these when doing anything outside.

This book is full of inspiration and sits on my nightstand, rides in the passenger seat, and is packed in my backpack. Every page is a beautiful story featuring the adventures and strength of women. Many times when I am on the road solo I turn to this book to give me the motivation I need to keep going. Each story, and nugget of advice is paired with a gorgeous picture of the outdoors. This makes a great gift for your outdoorsy friends!

Unlike other fanny packs, this Stashbandz fits pretty tight and can easily conceal under your clothes. I use this to store cash, passport, cell phone, credit cards etc. It includes four pockets - one large pocket with a zipper, and three pockets with anti-theft fold over protection. Use this when hiking, walking through Disney World, taking the metro in D.C., or storing your valuables on your body while sleeping in a shared Hostel.

These are just a few of my must-haves when I travel. They are all as practical as they are stylish - a win-win! So as you explore our itineraries and get your inspiration for your next trip, pick up some of these items too. Send us your favorite items for traveling or tag us on instagram @Peregrinaco
