The cats kept me going!!!
Today was a serious challenge. I clocked 15.9 mile of brutal hills from Roncesvalles to Zubiri. Everyone told me it was 13.6 but now I’m convinced they are all just lying to me.
I started bright and early this morning with three of my Camino family members: Barbara, Steve and Emily. We left at about 7:15AM in the rain and walked about a mile and a half to breakfast in Burguete.
The breakfast was delicious and the cafe con leche was the perfect compliment to the chilly wet morning. When I arrived, more of our Camino family was already waiting for us. It is true what they say about the friends you meet out here. Seems like many of these friendships will be lifelong. Although some are fleeting and that is ok too!
I took me 10 hours to walk the route today. Which is pretty longer than most. But it’s my Camino and I have chosen to go the speed that is right to me.
Today I felt more pain than I have in a very long time. My calves hurt, my feet ache and my knee is barely hanging on. But I pushed through and will the help and motivation of those around me, we all made it to our destination.
I swear if it wasn’t for seeing a cute cat every couple miles I’m not sure I would have pressed on. 😉
I was passed 6 times by a school group of 12 year olds who taught me a bit of Spanish every time they walked by. Then they would rest for a bit, I’d catch up and they’d pass me again. It got pretty comical and we all arrived into Zubiri at the same time.
The funniest part of today… I was the last one to arrive to my albergue. This lovely note was left outside 😂😂.
I creeped into my room trying not to disturb my snoring bunk mates as they get a very coveted nap before dinner. I think I need a glass of wine and maybe another cat visit. 🤷🏼♀️
Until tomorrow!! Buen Camino.
loving the inspo you're finding along the way! kids, cats, friends, funny notes, whatever it may be, use those to help you keep moving forward!!
You’ve got this!!! The furry feline friends are the perfect trip boost! ❤️🥰
Awesome picture. Looks like it was a cloudy downcast day. The kitties were there to keep you going. Hope you are sleeping like a baby. Look forward to your post tomorrow. I will be at SJPDP in two weeks!
Some say that stage is easy and flat. I've read enough posts about this section that I'm prepared for hills, etc.! Glad you are going at your own pace! Enjoy!
Sleep good tonight and may you have wonderful dreams of cats! 🙂 Proud of you!
